About STP
Single Touch Payroll requires employers to streamline their payroll reporting. Employers will need to digitally report payroll information at every pay run. This includes reporting PAYG and superannuation amounts for each employee. This information will be sent to the ATO via the internet, using payroll software.
From 1 July 2019 all employers must report their payroll to the Australian Taxation Office. This will be each time they run their payroll and pay their employees.
Information will be sent directly by accounting software that offers STP reporting or through a third party.
Employers will need to use a cloud (web based) solution that connects directly with the ATO for STP reporting. Subsequently, the ATO have listed some low cost and free options for cloud based solutions here.
